Pipe Organ Restoration

pipe organ restoration
What is this movie? It has the word “moon” in the title, I think.?

This family lives in rural England. They make everything they use. They make telescopes, pipe organs, houses, furniture, everything; except the china, they did’nt make that. The film is supposed to be a documentery about these simple, but brilliant peasants who live in a forest clearing. One of the hobies that the men have (there are three men and the sister living together) is the restoration of steam traction engines. These are enormous tractors over a story tall. They fabricate parts for them.
The organ was made by hand, and by ear. They claim they listened to their sister sing, figured out the musical scale, and built the thing for her, as a gift. I saw this movie in 1972 or so.
Thanks,
Peter

Artifacts in Use is a new book about the conservation of functional objects. Pipe organs serve as a case study looking into the broader questions of caring for historic objects that continue in use, especially those whose restoration often remains beyond the sphere of professional conservators.
